Delft Blue
Delft Blue, a traditional Dutch pottery, originated in the 17th century and reflects the influence of Chinese porcelain. It is now impossible to imagine Dutch households without it. But behind this typically Dutch product lies a global story. The technique of decorating pottery with tin glaze originally came from the Middle East. It reached the Netherlands at the end of the 16th century thanks to Flemish immigrants. The porcelain examples that inspired the Delft potters were brought from China by the VOC. Later, they also looked a lot at German porcelain. Delft pottery became so sought-after that it spread all over Europe.
