The Tulpboek (Tulip Book) may well be the only seventeenth-century tulip catalogue to have been preserved in its entirety. Depicted in it are the costliest tulips at the time of the Dutch ‘bulb craze,’ which raged from 1634 to early 1637. At its height, an unusual tulip bulb cost as much as a canal mansion.

The Tulpboek belonged to Doctor Nicolaes Tulp (known from Rembrandt’s painting, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Tulp) and has been in the possession of his descendants, the Six family, now for generations.

This special facsimile of the Tulpboek features all the more than one hundred splendid watercolours that the famous flower painter Jacob Marrel made for this unique book.
