For the 2023 edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, Mizuno collaborated once again with the Rijksmuseum to create two special edition shoes. This time, the collaboration aimed to honor one of the Netherlands' most famous 17th-century painters, Johannes Vermeer.

For Mizuno's Contender Rijksmuseum, every effort has been made to uphold the essence of Vermeer's works. The shoe features serene Pantone colors inspired by the painting and is crafted from luxurious materials like premium mesh and suede. Remarkable references adorn the sneakers, from the blue fabric reminiscent of the Milkmaid's attire to the (small) Delft blue tiles with cupids in the background of the painting. The tongue bears a print of the Milkmaid herself, paying tribute to the masterpiece.

The painting is also mirrored on the insoles, where each insole focuses on a significant idea from the artwork. The left insole captures the act of pouring milk, expressing the precision of the gesture— the sole moving element in the painting. The right insole highlights the milkmaid and the splendid hues she wears.
