Around 1680 Mary Stuart, wife of King-Stadholder William III, made Delftware 'flower pyramids' all the rage with the aristocracy in Holland and England. Adorned with flowers they were spectacular sights in Baroque palaces. Only a few of them have survived. Five tulip vases are (literally) the high points of the superb Rijksmuseum Delft earthenware collection. The Rijksmuseum Series is an easy way to learn about the most important artworks and historical topics in the Rijksmuseum. Each lavishly illustrated volume introduces a work of art and places it in its (art) historical context. Ideal for anyone who wants to find out more on his favourite artwork in the museum, as a souvenir or gift. DUTCH language edition (also available in English)
